I’m not sure how I missed the memo on Facebook Places Pages (that’s a mouthful) new functionality feature but I have to say I am not a fan. Today I was perusing some of my favorite places pages and when I selected the Info link a strange thing appeared:
Users can now add details about places pages right in the information section!
I tried out the system and saved my changes (which I later deleted when I couldn’t determine where they appeared on the page).
I will continue to update this post when I find out more relevant information.
Conclusion
I do not think allowing users to change relevant information on a Places Page in Facebook is a “good” idea. This leaves businesses open to a wide range of potential spam and misinformation. While Facebook reported that 3 of my friends added details to places it did not tell me what places they edited. I am going to investigate this further by having some associates use this feature so we can diagnose the outcome of their changes.
What are your thoughts?

I agree, but it seems that Facebook has begun reviewing information updates and duplicate location reports prior to allowing the update to be applied.
I completely agree. I spend an hour today going through every available privacy option to change it so not everybody can edit information, but found nothing, apparently, it can’t be changed. Completely ridiculous.
Same here. After hours of troubleshooting this for a customer, we determined it’s not any of their permissions problems, but a bug in Facebook.
